The Transylvanian Highlands have made it to the finals of the 2025 Destination of the Year competition in the “Enchanted Lands” category, and we’re just one step away from putting this breathtaking region on the map of Romania’s most beloved destinations!


What makes the Highlands so special?

The landscapes that stop you in your tracks. The villages that feel like they belong to another time. The trails that take you through forests, over rolling hills, and along rivers where nature thrives, untouched. Here, you don’t just visit—you experience, you feel, you discover.

And we’re in great company! Saschiz and Biertan have also reached the finals in the “Fairytale Villages” category—further proof that Transylvania is an endless source of beauty. Among this year’s nominees, you’ll also find other places you absolutely must explore in 2025:

  • The charming villages of Cobor, Viscri, Hoghilag

  • The Hârtibaci Valley Steam Train (Mocănița), just 20 km from Sibiu

  • Inspiring cities like Sighișoara, Sibiu, and Brașov

  • The Bazna Spa and Wellness Resort


Now, we need your help!

If you:

  • Have heard of this magical place and love what it represents

  • Have visited at least once

  • Have climbed at least one hill in search of a breathtaking view

  • Have wandered through Saxon villages with their timeless houses

  • Have attended a Transylvanian Brunch, a Sonoro or IconArts concert, or Haferland Days

  • Have competed in a TBT Race, the Mediaș Bike Marathon, or the Țara Făgărașului Bikeathon

  • Have enjoyed the peace of hiking trails and roads that always lead to something new

…then now is the time to VOTE!


How can you vote?

  1. Go to the official competition website: https://destinatiaanului.ro/competitia/voteaza

  2. Select Transylvanian Highlands under “Enchanted Lands”, one of the villages Biertan or Saschiz under “Fairytale Villages”, and your other favorite destinations in the remaining categories.

  3. Click “Submit Vote” after entering your email address.

  4. Confirm your vote via the email you receive (otherwise, it won’t be validated).


    Voting period: March 4 – March 25, 2025
