The land of tuberoses
Plants with a specific odor that you either hate or love but their presence is always unique!
The first community of cultivators in Romania, the Saxons, brought them in the Middle Ages, in the commune of Hoghilag (or Halvelagen), just 16 kilometers from Sighisoara. The pretentious „cypresses” only bloom every three years and are a symbol of sensuality. The best time to visit a tuberose plantation is from July to August. The Hoghilag community dedicated a festival to this flower – it takes place usually in the first weekend of August.
You can visit the tuberose gardens by foot or by bike.
