On June 20th, we invite you to a special hike! On Thursday, starting at 5:00 PM, we will meet in front of Technological High School No. 1 (Miu High School) in Sighișoara to head towards the viewpoint on Goalberich Hill (the Observatory). We will stay there until nightfall to celebrate the beginning of the astronomical summer and, on this occasion, Sânziene.

Before nightfall, we will light a fire around which we will listen to stories about the traditions of Sânziene and old Sighișoara. To honor the iele who dance at that hour, we might even have a round dance, celebrating life, love for one another, and community.

At nightfall, we will descend from the hill.

P.S. Please wear appropriate footwear. Regarding the dress code, we wish to experience and live these beautiful traditions as authentically as possible, so we invite you to wear a traditional Romanian blouse (ie), or even a white shirt or blouse.

The summer solstice has been celebrated since ancient times, being a reason for festivity in various cultures. In our tradition, there is the popular holiday Drăgaica or Sânziene (the night of June 23-24) - a magical moment when the skies open, plants gain special powers, and wishes come true. On June 24th, we also celebrate the Christian holiday of the Birth of St. John the Baptist, and the same day marks Universal Ie Day, initiated in 2013.
